Strategies for reducing plastic waste at sea

I’ve been thinking about the ongoing issue of plastic pollution in our oceans. Recently, I read that over 8 million tons of plastic waste enter the seas each year. I’m curious if anyone here has implemented specific strategies on their vessels to tackle this problem. Sustainable practices are crucial, and I’d love to hear more about what works and what doesn’t.

, this drives me nuts too! Last season, we installed a water filtration system to reduce single-use plastic bottles onboard. It’s worked wonders, but the upfront cost was a bit steep.

I totally get where you’re coming from! Last summer, we switched to reusable food containers onboard instead of plastic wrap, and it’s made a noticeable difference. Just a small change, but it feels good knowing we’re doing our part — like giving the ocean a hug instead of tossing it trash. @mfisher320, have you tried anything similar?

We switched to biodegradable cleaning products on our boat, which helped reduce our plastic waste significantly. Have you considered that too? :ocean:.
