Optimizing passage planning for coastal waters

I recently did a route optimization exercise using advanced navigation software for a trip along the coast of Maine — it really highlighted how critical adjusting for tidal currents can be… Have others noticed a significant difference in their fuel efficiency or travel time when they adapt their routes based on real-time conditions?

I’ve found that syncing my departure times with the peak flow of the tide can really shave off some travel time; on my latest trip, I adjusted my schedule based on tide tables, and it made a noticeable difference. Have you tried different departure timings yet?
