Building on @dpitt207, we use a preset ‘fog box’ on radar/ECDIS: guard rings 0.5/1.5 nm, TCPA 12 min, manual ARPA only, plus a 6‑knot cap when inside the inner ring — belt‑and‑suspenders that kills dithering; offshore we ease the inner ring to 0.3 nm. Anyone else pre‑load profiles per area?

Quick thing that’s helped me: before any speed change in the murk, the OOW states intent plus the abort point out loud and the lookout repeats it back; we jot those two lines in the log so it feeds the next debrief without another form. It cut down on missed callouts, but we drop it under pilotage to avoid clutter — @dpitt207 your presets mesh well with this when the abort is explicit. You tried a read-back?

But one thing that’s helped on foggy watches: we tap the VDR “EVENT” mark any time we alter speed or acquire/drop a target, then scratch the UTC next to the radar plot — debriefs later are quicker and tighter. I’ve had good results assigning a “scale keeper”: one radar stays locked at 6 nm for the whole fog run and only that person can touch it, while the other set’s free for close work and trials.
